Oct. 21st, 2002 10:59 amYesterday, SN (EB's roomate) and I went to a college fair to talk up Bryn Mawr to confused high schoolers and their overbearing parents. It was quite a lot of fun, actually, and not all the parents were awful. The ones that were, though, wow. There was this one ninth-grader, whose father said that "we(i.e. the parents) are very interested in BMC for her," insisted that "they had to start early to get her into somewhere good" and proceeded to harangue me for several minutes about how few schools accept IB. The girl never said a word; every time we tried to talk to her, the father answered. Sometimes I wish DYFS could be called in to require parents to back the fuck off.
The event was at a mall in Northern VA, and we had parked near an entrance through a department store. Well, by the time we were leaving, the door was closed, and we wandered around the parking lot for a while until we were finally helped by a friendly security guard in his truck. While we looked for the car, he told us strange stories about human behavior as observed in mall parking lots. I really think that Law and Order: Mall Security would be a runaway hit. Goat-Girl, how 'bout passing it on to your hotshot brother?
