Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I'm so grateful to have you all, even scattered around the world like you are.

Back from a lovely if too brief visit to Roanoke, where the whole family was gathered for the first time in several years. They are a weird crowd: I love them very much, we have lots of fun together, but I know that I will never, ever impress them. I shouldn't want to, but I always do, and it always sends me into a bit of a funk at first. At least I know better than to try, because that would entail making an ass of myself.
I wonder what they would do, though, if I ended up writing a book or being elected to office or something. Probably comment that it was very nice, and go on to talk about the rainfall and my aunt's llamas. Which is exactly how I want them to be, really.

Right. Book recommendation: Making History, by Stephen Fry. I may have been living under a rock because I'd never heard of him, but he reminded me in places of Terry Pratchett, Orson Scott Card, Douglas Adams, and the author (whose name escapes me of The Doomsday Book . Fun, fascinating, serious...just read it, okay?
